Our story began in 1896, when the Annis Sunday School was organized as a branch of the Menan Ward. As the community grew, so did the need for a place where families could gather, celebrate, worship, and share in one another’s lives.
In 1904, the Annis branch became its own ward, and just one year later, plans were made to build a meetinghouse that could serve both the congregation and the community.
What they built was remarkable. The beautiful dark stone walls of this historic building were constructed from black sandstone, quarried roughly ten miles northwest and brought to the property by teams and wagons. But the building was made from more than stone. The people of Menan helped build it, fund it, and bring it to life. Families, neighbors, craftsmen, and friends contributed their time, talents, and resources to create a place that belonged to the entire community.
The first meeting was held here on July 14, 1907.For decades, these stone walls witnessed the rhythms of community life. Families gathered here for worship, celebrations, meetings, performances, and countless moments together. It became more than a church—it became a gathering place woven into the story of the people who called Menan and the surrounding area home.

Where Your Story Becomes Part of Our History

As the community continued to grow, so did the building. In the late 1930s, the original structure was expanded to accommodate a growing congregation and even more opportunities for the community to gather. Once again, the people came together to contribute their time and resources, continuing a tradition of building something that would serve generations after them. And now, the story continues.
In 1983 the building hosted it's last church meetings and was sold. Today, we have the privilege of giving this historic building a new chapter. We want to preserve the character, beauty, and spirit of this special place while opening its doors to a new generation. Our hope is that the Annis Church House can continue to be what it has always been—a place where people come together.
